Living Room Built Ins

I love a good before and after; but with a new build home, there typically aren’t any gut-job renovations or jaw dropping transformations once you’ve moved in. Don’t get me wrong, we love all of the perks of owning a new home. But it has been a bit of a challenge to make it our own. Below is the before…

This area was in dire need for built ins. We toyed with the idea of a larger entertainment center but never found one that caught our eye. I have made an effort to be much more intentional with filling our spaces, only purchasing pieces that we love rather than buying something to check a box. So, we decided on built ins. We wanted to be able to mount the tv, hide the cords and boxes, router etc. and add a bit of character to our living area.

We chose Jarrod, who owns American Woodcrafters here in Sacramento, to complete the project. I showed him a few ideas and he completely brought my vision to life. I wanted a simple, classic design that looked as if it had been a part of our home all along. The shaker cabinets, pulls and moulding match our kitchen. We chose “wire” for the front of our cabinets, to help hide our electronics but also allow the signal to pass through. Lastly, we had the entire built in backed with beadboard to add texture and provide a finished look.

American Woodcrafters builds all of their projects custom to your home. The built ins are literally “built in” to our cut out and aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. He came twice to take measurements, pre-built each section, placed each section piece by piece in place, trimmed out the entire project, touched up the paint and added doors / pulls. Jarrod was great to work with and we would highly recommend him to anyone needing custom work. American Woodcrafters does custom built ins, cabinetry, wainscoting and custom furniture.
