Backyard Refresh
When we moved into our house 3 years ago, our backyard was a small piece of concrete surrounded by dirt. The yards in our neighborhood overall are on the smaller side but we also wanted it to be fairly low maintenance. We quickly had artificial turf laid and the concrete extended, but then slowly chipped away with picking out plants and getting them into the ground over a couple years span. Fast forward to last year.. we finally finished planting and replacing a few “fails” but we always felt like the backyard was 75% done. We spent last summer using the space to see what was missing. Tim was over making trips to the nursery and I had a tough time coming up with the best way to maximize the space. So, we decided to enlist the help of a landscape designer. My #1 rule: don’t mess with my blue hydrangeas 😂. We needed help pulling the entire space together, making it more usable and cohesive. The plans include having cafe lights installed across the yard, a few concrete square pavers to extend the hardscape living area and a cedar fence to hide our a/c unit. A few plants will also be moved and additional roses installed to keep a cohesive look. Since we don’t spend much time at our kitchen table, we opted to make the back area more suitable for late night hangs, looking into a projector screen for movie night rather than an outdoor dining table. We are excited to see our yard come to life and be able to enjoy it even more this summer.
